DIAPERS FOR DARLINGS
Diapers for Darlings
is a non-profit ministry of Living Word Fellowship Church serving the Tioga County area. (We will provide for emergency needs throughout Tioga County) . We collect, store, and distribute free diapers and wipes to families suffering from financial difficulty (serving all people without regards to their religious beliefs). We obtain diapers through local diaper drives, donations by manufacturers and retailers, and by purchasing diapers directly with donated funds. We also endeavor to raise community awareness that "basic human needs" include diapers, and these needs are not being met for children living in poverty. We also offer educational and training resources (potty training, bed wetting, budgeting, etc.)
In MATT. 25:37, Jesus said :
"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or NAKED AND CLOTHE YOU ? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40 And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you ,IN AS MUCH AS YOU DID IT TO ONE OF THE THE LEAST OF THESE MY BRETHREN, YOU DID IT TO ME. "
WILL YOU HELP US TO SHOW GOD'S LOVE AND COMPASSION BY HELPING FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH THIS ESSENTIAL NEED?

WHY is a DIAPER BANK needed in TIOGA COUNTY?
1. Diapers are expensive! Approximately 8 diapers are needed per day. The cost is about $100 per month, averaging around $1200 a year for one child. Federal assistance programs, such as SNAP (formerly called food stamps) and WIC, do not cover diapers. Without transportation, buying diapers at a convenience store rather than a large “big box” store can significantly increase the monthly cost of diapers. Cloth diapers cannot be washed at laundromats or low income wash rooms, requiring these parents to purchase disposable diapers.
2. According to the U.S. Census, 2013, in Tioga County 15.3% live below the Poverty level. (in comparison to 13.3% in Pennsylvania as a whole; Tioga County is significantly higher!).
The unemployment rate in Tioga County is significantly higher than that of PA and U.S.
April 2015 unemployment rates : Tioga County 6.1%; PA 5.3%; U.S. 5.5%
3. A diaper bank will help to promote the health and well-being of babies. Buy diapers? Buy food to feed your family? OR pay the rent? A TOUGH CHOICE some parents have to make! Some of these parents "stretch" the use of a diaper by cleaning it out and putting it back on, leading to potential health and abuse risks. A baby left in a wet, dirty diaper all day can experience diaper rash, infection, and other worse health problems. A baby suffering from severe diaper rash and irritation is an unhappy baby. An unhappy baby is a crying baby, stressing out already stressed caregivers living in need. Babies who cry excessively are the most likely to be victims of abuse!
4. If low-income parents cannot provide a steady supply of disposable diapers, they cannot take advantage of free or subsidized childcare, and without childcare, they are less able to attend work or school on a consistent basis. In turn, this leads to increased economic instability and a continuation of the cycle of poverty. With an adequate supply of clean, dry diapers, parents can access these daycare and early education programs so parents can work or attend school.
